El Sera is a comfortable town of more than a million people -- not too big, not too small. Settled comfortably on the United States' east coast, El Sera is both a seafront city and a riverside city and thus treated to warm, mild summers and cool, mild winters. It has a bustling tourism industry in the summer and a busy but business-oriented downtown year round.
Though a far cry from a company town El Sera's economy is still heavily tied up in the dealings of Xochipilli Business Solutions, the city's largest employer. Xochipilli is cited with kick-starting El Sera's economy and is often seen as a patron of the city. They also own the Xochipilli Academy for Boys, which is often considered the best school in the city. The native technology level is modern.
But there's more to El Sera than meets the eye. Despite is economic emphasis on tourism and the business industries, the city has a reputation for being delightfully weird. Conspiracy theorists and new age shops rub elbows with high class restaurants and consulting firms, ghost tours can be found all throughout downtown's historical district, and new urban legends crop up on a regular basis.
Anyone that digs deeper will find that it's more serious than that. Magic is very real, as are those that can use it and the monsters they use it against. Xoxhipilli is actually a front of a sorts. While still a legitimate business, their true purposes is to coordinate and guide the male magical users in the city.
